Dioscorea elephantipes

This striking small vine gets a large bulbous stem which resembles a turtle shell as it gets older and larger. It’s not called “elephants foot” for nothing!

Unusually, this succulent is dormant in summer.

Light: The caudex/bulbous stem should be partially shaded, however the leaves like bright light and sun.

Water: Keep soil moist when growing in winter, but very dry in summer dormant period when it will lose it’s leaves. When you see green growth start again, then it’s time to resume regular watering.

Temperature: Likes warm, above 10C, but can tolerate down to -4C for short periods.
